The Occasions Lady and A Spooky Season Photo Shoot

Last October, I had the chance to combine some of my favorite things – fall, photography and spooky things – for a fun photo shoot based on the viral TikTok sheet ghost trend.

The trend, which is associated with the hashtag #ghostphotoshoot, has been around for a few years and centers around people making their own ghost costumes from bed sheets. While some people do the photo shoots alone, it is popular to take the photos with friends, family and dogs.

My partners in crime were my daughter, Sophie, her boyfriend (now husband), Reid, and their Golden Retriever, Hazel. Sophie helped me gather the necessary supplies: white bed sheets, various sunglasses, hats, a few pumpkins, a Trick or Treat bucket and, just for a little added incentive, some dog treats for Hazel.

I purchased two inexpensive white sheets and cut holes in the sheets so Sophie and Reid could see. I opted for a matching king-sized white pillowcase for Hazel and cut each side to make it less confining for her. Trying to figure out where to cut the eye holes for a Golden Retriever was slightly more complicated.

Like most October days in Northeast Arkansas, it was still warm outside, so we waited until late afternoon. The light was good, but I probably should have waited a little longer so the ghosts were not wilting in the sun quite as long. Also, I may have underestimated the amount of time it takes to get a dog and her people to pose in bed sheets in unity, but I was undeterred.

We took photos in our backyard, on the front porch and strolling around the neighborhood and got some great pictures. Other common sheet ghost photo shoots include ghosts driving cars with other ghosts as passengers, playing on swing sets, reading books and, oddly enough, eating McDonald’s French fries.

We had a great time with our ghost photo shoot, and I enjoyed making memories with my trio of ghosts. If you love spooky season, grab your friends, family and Fido and give it a try.
