fall fashion: accessory trends
by Cody Moore, illustrations by Brittney Guest

The arrival of fall is a great excuse to wear oversized sweaters and skinny jeans, especially when paired with some of this season’s hottest trends. Here’s a look at some of the top accessories that will be enhancing ensembles this fall:

Ankle Boots: Ankles will be stylish this season with a boot that comes in several materials, especially velvet and leather. These boots are easily paired with lengthy skirts, shorts or jeans for women of all ages. For the younger generation, a short skirt, fishnet stockings and ankle boots make a great ensemble for a night out.

Bright and Shiny: Metallics are being used in all sorts of fashion accessories this season – bracelets, shoes, chokers and more – but it’s the metallic shoe that can make an outfit bold. Whether stepping out on the streets or headed to outer space, pairing a metallic shoe with any outfit is sure to make a fashionable look shine this season

Eccentric Earrings: A trend that is making its way into fall fashion is loose earrings. Whether they’re dangling with diamonds, flowing with feathers or popping with pom poms, pairing this accessory with a simple tee or dress serves as the perfect statement piece.

Fur Frenzy: This fall’s furry frenzy is certainly cozy. Pairing a bag with faux fur accents with any outfit will update a wardrobe. Fur slides are also very popular this fall. UGG’s athletic-looking side with a pink faux fur top is already on display in local stores and is priced at $100.

Rings Galore: This simple trend has been in style for a few months now, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a fall must-have. Glam the hands by adding this accessory with any outfit to add a little shine. The more rings, the better.

Vintage Sunnies: Vintage-inspired glasses are here for fall. Try wearing a cat eye or circle frame with a simple T-shirt and a high-waisted pant to create an iconic and selfie-ready outfit.

Patch Remix: Gucci and other big names in fashion design are putting colorful patches (butterflies, bees, tigers, dragons and more) on their designer jeans, denim jackets and shoes this season. Don’t have $4,980 for Gucci’s patch-laden denim jacket? Making this a DIY project by finding patches and applying them to denim pieces could be fun, too. Pair a patched denim jacket with a solid colored dress so the patches will pop.

Embroidery Embellishments: Embroidery is making its mark on all types of clothing items this season. Whether it’s flowers embroidered on an easy-to-carry clutch, a simple tee or this fall’s fashionable backless slip-on, the stitch work will add interest to any wardrobe.

Designer Backpacks: Move over purses, backpacks are on the move. Designer backpacks have been slowly coming into style, and this season they are in full force. Look for backpacks that are studded, embroidered, metallic or even furry to update wardrobes this fall.
