Paint the Town Red Week Set for September 9-12

Businesses, organizations and residents across Jonesboro are invited to show their Red Wolves pride during Paint the Town Red Week set for Sept. 9-12.

Organized by the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce’s A-State Committee in partnership with Arkansas State University, the annual celebration will include a mayoral proclamation and school pep rally, a community decorating contest, the Great A-State Block Party in Downtown Jonesboro and the Red Wolves’ home football game against West Georgia.

“Paint the Town Red Week is one of the ways Jonesboro shows its support for A-State and the people who make up the university community,” said Tamara Roberson, director of sales for the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce. “From local businesses decorating their storefronts to families gathering downtown for the block party, the week gives the entire community an opportunity to take part.”

The week will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 9, with a pep rally and proclamation from Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver at Fox Meadow School of Creative Media. The event will feature the chamber’s A-State Committee, the A-State band and cheerleaders, and representatives from A-State Athletics.

Judging for the annual Paint the Town Red decorating contest will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 10. This year’s judging panel includes Barb Jones, wife of A-State Head Football Coach Butch Jones; Reagan Silva, wife of head baseball coach Mike Silva; and Marisol Pezman, wife of Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Pezman.

An overall winner, runner-up and honorable mention will be recognized during the Great A-State Block Party, which will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Sept. 11, in Downtown Jonesboro. The community celebration will include live music from Bloodhound.
