Cottagecore Wedding Fashion
story and illustrations By Brittney Guest Osborn

For couples that crave the simple life, the cottagecore trend is the wedding aesthetic that is just their cup of herbal tea. Imagine the perfect outdoor venue complete with rustic cabins, tall pines and a wildflower field. A bluegrass band has been secured, and treasured family desserts are featured at the reception. Today’s brides can continue the theme by choosing the perfect ensemble for the wedding party. Here are a few ways to carry the cottagecore aesthetic throughout the entire wedding by planning the perfect attire for the ceremony.

For the Bride
If a bride can frolic in a field of wildflowers while wearing it, it’s cottagecore. Think floaty fabrics, floral prints, crochet and lace, delicate flower crowns and floppy sun hats. Dramatic bishop sleeves and ruffled skirts have been taking the runway by storm for a couple seasons now, and a cottagecore wedding is the ideal place to showcase these trends. Brides should seek out dresses with loose, sheer sleeves, floral lace, tulle layers, smocked bodices and voluminous skirts to keep with the theme. For a non-traditional bride, perhaps a gown in pastel undertones topped with sheer netting or a jumpsuit with pastel floral embroidery would be the perfect choice.

For the Girls
Keep the romance and whimsy going with coordinated bridal party outfits worthy of an English garden. Flowy, pastel dresses in varied floral prints can add an elegant nonchalance to the bridesmaids’ look. Prairie-style dresses with oversized collars and lace trim are another more casual option. Steer clear of sparkles and structure when choosing a cottagecore look. Remember, simplicity is best.

For the Groom
Nothing sets a groom apart from the rest like his wedding day suit. Instead of the traditional black suit, try a suit in a softer, more natural hue like light grey, steel blue or even sage green. Accessorize with a floral pocket square and bowtie to complement the bridal party’s outfits. Grooms can even try a straw hat for a fun photo opportunity.

For the Guys
Keeping with the more subdued, natural theme of cottagecore, a great option for the men in the wedding might be button-up shirts in pastel hues. Accessorize with brown leather suspenders and ties in floral or paisley. Tweed jackets with elbow patches can be a great addition to a cooler weather ensemble.

For the Kids
Try mini versions of the grown-up outfits for the youngest members of the party. A flower girl in an eyelet dress with button-up boots and a delicate flower crown can throw all the wildflower petals she wishes during a cottagecore wedding. The ring bearer in his matching button-up and slacks can forgo the suspenders if he wishes, but there’s just something about a tiny bow tie that will captivate the hearts of guests.
