Hot Cocoa Bombs
Are Booming
for Valentine’s Day

There are many ways to say “I love you” with food on Valentine’s Day: a romantic four-course gourmet dinner at a local restaurant, a heart-shaped box of fine chocolates or even chocolate-dipped strawberries. This year, there’s another foodie-inspired treat available for Valentine’s Day: a hot cocoa bomb.

Local bakery owners say hot cocoa bombs became popular over the holidays as they garnered attention on social media. Although the hot cocoa bomb looks like an oversized chocolate truffle, it is actually hollow inside and typically filled with one serving of hot chocolate mix and mini marshmallows. In effect, the hot cocoa bomb is like a bath bomb, except it’s to drink instead of to use in a bath. Simply place the bomb in a mug of steaming milk, and watch it dissolve into a sinfully delicious drink. The cocoa ingredients appear to “explode” out of the bomb and into the milk.

Several local bakeries will have the trendy treat decadently decorated for Valentine’s Day, so why not indulge with a cozy but cool cup of hot cocoa for two?

Owner Abby Shannon says Abby Cakes began offering hot cocoa bombs in early December after seeing them take TikTok and Facebook by storm.

“They sold extremely well,” said Shannon. “We couldn’t keep up with the demand. We have a preorder set that includes a cookie that says, ‘You’re the Bomb,’ along with two classic hot cocoa bombs.”

Bliss Cupcake Café
1312-B Red Wolf Blvd.
Phone: (870) 336-2504

Breanna Walton and Beth Futrell, the mother-and-daughter team who own and operate Bliss Cupcake Café, began offering hot cocoa bombs in early December.

“They were a huge hit,” said Walton. “They are very labor intensive, so it was often hard to keep up around Christmas making them around the clock.”

Bliss plans to have a variety of hot cocoa bomb flavors available for Valentine’s Day, including white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, red velvet crumble and cookies and cream. Although the store plans to have the items in the case for pick up, the owners recommend pre-ordering for special events and holidays.

Fancy Flour Bakery
2810 E. Highland Drive, Suite X
Phone: (870) 336-9869

Owner Maria Aguilar said Fancy Flour also began offering Christmas-themed hot cocoa bombs in December.

“They were our best-selling item for Christmas,” said Aguilar. “For Valentine’s Day, we will be offering assorted flavors such as birthday cake, cookies and cream, Death by Chocolate, white chocolate, milk chocolate and strawberry.”

Although hot cocoa bombs will be available in the case daily at their new location on Highland Drive, Aguilar suggests pre-ordering bakery items for Valentine’s Day.
